Moscow-Sana
An earthquake measuring five degrees on the Richter scale hit the town of Severo-Korilsk, located in the northern part of the Russian Kuril Islands, today, with no reports of damage or losses so far.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck 160 km south of the town of Severo-Korilsk, at a depth of 54.2 km, at 49.2314 degrees north latitude and 155.9782 degrees east longitude.
The Kuril Islands are located in an active volcanic seismic zone. Fifty islands extend over a thousand kilometers and belong to the Russian province of Sakhalin.
