The issue of strengthening the buildings has made headlines recently in the wake of the collapse of a residential building in Holon and the evacuation of other buildings throughout the country for fear of collapsing.
Despite what it may seem, the collapse of a building or any other structure does not occur like thunder on a clear day and is preceded by several early signs, including cracks, differences in the height of the structure, foundations exposed over the years and more.
The question arises: what actions must be taken to strengthen the structure and prevent the next collapse?
Aura experts in urban renewal with three life-saving tips:
Contact a professional -
If you see cracks in your residential structure, it is important to contact a licensing engineer to thoroughly investigate the issue.
These may be repairable cracks, but there are cases where the same professional will diagnose that it is a crack that could lead to the collapse of the entire structure.
It is important to know that residential buildings in Israel are supposed to stand on their own for about 50 years.
There are many buildings around the country that have long since passed the age of 50, and the signs of age can also be seen on them.
Unlike many European countries, where building renovation is part of the maintenance routine that the state does, in Israel this is the first time that there is a real need for restoration and strengthening of buildings.

Strict adherence to standards -
Contrary to popular belief, the collapse of a structure can be caused by an overload of the foundations.
For example, during the Corona period, many balconies had pools installed for the children who had to spend long days at home.
As a result, the foundations of the buildings are under a load that they were not supposed to withstand in the first place, which could damage the stability of the structure and if it is a building whose foundations are already dilapidated because it stands for decades, the excess weight can cause irreversible damage.

Periodic inspection every 3-5 years -
In Israel there is no law that requires such an inspection, but the tenants' representatives (the house committee or the management company of the common building) have a duty to make sure that the building is indeed habitable and aware of changes over the years. Although contacting a professional who will examine the safety of the building involves a financial cost that is shared between the tenants, but when you think about the alternative - the collapse of the building - it is clear as day what the right choice is.
"Unlike previous years in which the solution proposed for such buildings was TMA 38 and proved to be ineffective over time, today it is quite clear that most of the public in Israel is interested in new, modern construction, one that is suitable for the 21st century," says Adv. Yaakov Atrakchi , CEO and controlling shareholder of Aura.
"The buildings that were supposed to undergo TMA are being replaced by evacuation-construction plans, which allow for upgrading of housing and at the same time provide a solution for urban infrastructure, green construction, public transportation, industrial buildings, green parks and breathe new life into areas built in some cases before construction." The country.
This answer allows tenants to be confident that the building in which they live is stable, safe, and built according to the highest standards that currently exist in the field of construction.
"Earthquakes are resistant to earthquakes, including metrics that can protect in the event of war, equipped with elevators and advanced technologies that make life much better and, more importantly, much safer."
