There's a lot to laugh about under the mask - at least that's what the organizers of the Leipzig Humor and Satire Festival think.

It starts this Sunday.

Leipzig - Since this Sunday, Leipzig has had a lot to laugh about again: For the 31st time, the laughing fair will take place there - according to the organizers, the largest cabaret festival in the German-speaking region.

Until October 24th, guests can expect a colorful program of cabaret and comedy, but also “chansons, songs and music, as well as literature, poetry and improvisation or pantomime, clowning and upscale nonsense”, as the organizers said in advance.

The International Humor and Satire Festival will open on Sunday evening with the award of the “Leipziger Löwenzahn” - a prize for the best program at the laughter fair last year.

It goes to the cabaret artist Lisa Eckhart.

"This decision was made by an audience jury advised by specialist journalists and the Leipzig Lachmesse," said Harald Pfeifer from the organizers' association.

Greens with little self-criticism on government course

A Green party conference has seldom gone so smoothly: In just two hours, the Greens celebrate themselves, name their exploratory teams and determine further steps on the way to possible participation in government.

Self-criticism is hardly loud.

Corona will certainly be a topic at the Lachmesse - but not the only one, promised Pfeifer.

The political situation or gender roles also belonged on the stage.

“It's not about being monothematic.

Cabaret lives from diversity. "

Pfeifer is hoping for many visitors this year.

So far, ticket sales have been rather restrained, even if some events such as the opening are already sold out.

“People are hesitant to buy tickets, often only in the evening.

But we hope that there will be a lot more spectators every day at the box office, ”said Pfeifer.

Last year, 11,500 people attended the festival - a good half of the 20,000 who attend in normal years.
