Representatives of the General Security Service said today (Sunday) that they fear an "extreme scenario", in which a large group of Jews will make an organized attempt and enter the Temple Mount, to hold an open and complete prayer in a way that will lead to violent showers.

The remarks were made during a discussion on the Temple Mount convened by Minister of Internal Security Amar Bar-Lev.

The hearing took place following a ruling by a Jerusalem Magistrate's Court judge who overturned a restraining order issued by the police against a Jewish right-wing activist who, according to a police officer who was present, was praying on the Temple Mount in violation of the status quo.

The district court reversed the decision following an appeal filed by police.

The source from the yeshiva contents stated that representatives of the Jerusalem police said at the hearing that about 100-70 Jews enter the Temple Mount every day - most of them regular visitors.

According to police representatives, despite some provocations from Jewish visitors during the Tishrei holidays, compared to a few years ago there has been a decrease in the number of status quo violations on the Temple Mount by Jews.

Police representatives noted that among the Arab worshipers on the Temple Mount, the majority of the provocateurs are Arab Israeli citizens who belong to the northern faction of the Islamic Movement - a large part of them from Umm al-Fahm.

GSS representatives noted that every week individual people who are not Muslims are caught - while trying to enter the Temple Mount when they are "confused" through the Gate of Mercy, from which the entrance is for Muslims only. .

The source said that GSS members also said that there were attempts by elements from the Arab world and Turkey to stir up the situation on the Temple Mount, taking advantage of individual provocations by Jews and presenting them as an attempt to harm the Al-Aqsa Mosque. "Turn the wheel back on the Temple Mount," GSS officials said at the hearing.

The director of the Jordanian department at the Foreign Ministry who participated in the discussion said that the Jordanian government sees the Temple Mount as the "rock of its existence", and the Jordanian embassy is dealing with the issue very intensively. The Foreign Ministry representative added that after a long period of slump in relations with Jordan, which culminated during Operation Wall Guard, there has been a significant improvement in relations with the neighboring country since the formation of the new government in Israel. "The situation with Jordan is very good at the moment - but trouble will come soon," said a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.

Minister Bar-Lev said at the conclusion of the discussion that the government will maintain the status quo on the Temple Mount, which was set by previous governments and in which visiting Jews and Muslims pray. "The Israel Police strictly maintains the current situation on the Temple Mount," said Bar-Lev.

The Temple Mount is sacred to Jews and Muslims, hence the sensitivity and explosiveness of any deviation from the current situation. With regard to the rise and prayer of visitors, it is important to ensure the continuation of the current situation as determined by the Israeli government in 1967. The Jordanian, "the minister stressed.
