By affirming - by a press release and not in a speech, a significant nuance - that the
"crimes committed that night under the authority of Maurice Papon are inexcusable for the Republic"
, the Head of State went further than his predecessor, François Hollande, who, nine years ago, the first, had said:
"The Republic recognizes these facts with lucidity."
The Socialist President had recognized them, his successor qualified them.
But, since these facts are
"inexcusable",
there is therefore no apology to present today for what happened sixty years ago - and, a fortiori, no request for forgiveness -, unlike those, legitimate, presented to the harkis barely a month ago.
We can see a presidential skill.
Or at least a new expression
