As for the industry’s earlier concerns that if the new course only offers full-time courses, it will reduce the number of professionals with relevant professional knowledge in the industry.

The website of the School of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong has uploaded relevant course information. The new course is "Master of Science [Conservation of Architectural Heritage]", which is jointly managed by the Department of Architecture and the Department of Landscape Architecture.

According to the website of the University of Hong Kong, the courses will be taught by heritage experts in the School of Architecture and will provide a platform for research and training. The University of Hong Kong also plans to set up another master's course for professionals.

According to the information on the website, the faculty members under the new course include those from the Department of Architecture, Department of Real Estate and Construction, Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Education.

However, most people only have experience related to architecture or planning, and the faculty who previously taught the master's course in architectural heritage conservation are not included in the new curriculum.

Conservation architect Ying Yilun, a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Heritage Conservation, pointed out that setting up part-time courses is of great importance to the training of industry talents, because many industry professionals and even government department personnel have also enrolled in the past.

However, he pointed out that the school has not yet announced the exact list of faculty and staff, hoping to join more people with practical experience.

He also pointed out that if the new curriculum has people from social sciences, education, etc., it is a good thing, because conservation is not only about building maintenance, but also stresses the relationship with the community.
