An IDF officer documents a left-wing operative pushing in a demonstration in the southern Hebron Hills (edited by Aviad Ballali)
The IDF announced today (Sunday) that the SMGD who was involved in two violent incidents in the month of Abba in the southern Hebron Mountains will be punished. According to the IDF statement, after a command inquiry, it was agreed that the officer would not be promoted or taken to a command and staff course for the next three years
. In an investigation conducted following the demonstration near the Abigail outpost, "it was determined that the officer made a mistake and acted in a way that was not committed to reality and does not conform to IDF norms." "It's wrong, and so is the blindfold of one of the arrested protesters."
During the demonstration, which was attended by left-wing activists from several different organizations including "Fighters for Peace", the officer was documented aggressively pushing some of them off the road, causing them to fall to the ground.
In documentation circulated on social media, the officer was even seen pinning one of the protesters to the ground using his knee.
Some of the activists were lightly injured in the demonstration.

In the second incident, the same officer pushed a Palestinian in a stone-throwing incident. The investigation of this incident shows that during the riot, his decision to try and stop the stone-throwers was correct, but "the push of the other Palestinian who approached the place was wrong." It was further determined that the officer had to carry out the chase after the stone thrower with the backing of additional force.
On the recommendation of the commander of the Central Command, Major General Yehuda Fox, and in view of the conclusions of the investigations concerning the two incidents, the commander of the Northern Command decided that the officer would not be promoted and would not take a command and staff course for the next three years. The commander of the command emphasized that this is a valued officer who has been acting professionally and responsibly for years, but that his conduct in both incidents "indicates a deviation from the professional norms and standards expected in such incidents."
The Chief of Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi, adopted the decision of the Commander-in-Chief and said that "IDF commanders and his soldiers are required to carry out their missions with determination and optimality while maintaining IDF values."
The IDF uses military force, but does not use violence. Soldiers have extensive freedom of action within the framework of professional procedures and instructions, and they must be adapted to the IDF spirit and values.
"The source of the IDF's strength is that it is a professional, value-based and state-run army, and any deviation from this requires treatment, learning and assimilation of the lessons."
