About 200 medical students from all over the country are demonstrating today (Sunday) in Tel Aviv on the new outline for shortening the interns' shifts, which did not lead to a significant change in their terms of employment.

The protesters began demonstrating in the Tel Aviv Cinematheque plaza and continued to march on Ibn Gvirol Street, and later blocked the Azrieli junction.

This demonstration takes place after about 2,590 hospital interns submitted their resignations to the Ministry of Health about two weeks ago, in protest of the new outline, which applies to only ten hospitals in the periphery, and which they claim has no real line.

Earlier, officials in the Ministry of Health said that the ministry was considering applying to the Labor Court for restraining orders for interns, if they did carry out the threat and resigned.

Last week, Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz unexpectedly attended a meeting of interns with Health Ministry Director General Nachman Ash and professionals at the Ministry of Health. There was an open conversation with the minister and his staff in order to hear and voice. "But negotiations were not here and therefore there is no line. We are continuing, sadly, with the resignation process."

Before the meeting, the Minister of Health said that "I decided to join the conversation because I am the Minister of Interns. They are important to me, and I have been working for them since my time as an opposition MK. I come to express my great appreciation to interns. ".

Horowitz went on to say that "as we have done since we started the process of shortening shifts, we will continue to work with interns in collaboration and continuous contact. I am committed to shortening internships, in all hospitals across the country. I have said this from my first day in office. We are already starting a big and significant step, and that is just the beginning. "

In the past, the interns' organization "Prescription" said that the permit clarifies that the shortening of shifts, as we said, will apply to only 10% of interns. 90% of interns will continue to do shifts of 26 hours. For how long? Unclear. There is no mention in the permit Will move to 16 + 2 "shifts.

"The surgical professions have been completely excluded from the outline," the organization added.

"The Minister of Health is afraid of shortening shifts for surgeons instead of fearing that he specializes in his 25th hour of shifts.
