Authorities in the UK estimate that the terrorist who murdered MP David Ames went through an online extremism process during the closure, the Times reported last night (Saturday).

According to a report by sources involved in the investigation, the young man, of Somali origin, was apparently inspired by the terrorist organization a-Shabab, which operates in the country.

He was not under surveillance by intelligence services, but was referred to a government program to combat religious extremism.

The BBC reported that the terrorist, identified as Ali Harbi Ali, 25, had not been a member of the program for a long time.

The program is voluntary, and participation in it is not an offense.

Security officials do not estimate that they were involved in the attack, in which 69-year-old Ames was stabbed while meeting with voters at a church in his constituency in Essex.

His assassination caused a stir in the UK, raising questions about the safety of MPs who usually meet with voters in meetings open to all. Just five years ago, Labor member Joe Cox was shot dead by a right-wing man, days before the Brexit referendum.

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Conservative Party, visited the church in Essex yesterday. "People are shocked and sad, we have lost a friend and a very beloved colleague," he said. Alongside Johnson, Interior Minister Patel Patel and Labor leader Kir Starmer laid wreaths in Ames' memory. More politicians from across the UK political spectrum expressed shock at receiving reports of his stabbing and death.

Patel said the security of MPs is being re-examined and will be strengthened.

"We are taking all steps for the security of MPs so that they can continue in their role as Democratic elected officials," the interior minister said, stressing that a balance could be struck between continuing direct meetings with voters and the security of lawmakers.

"We live in an open society, in a democracy. We can not be afraid of any person."

The security of the members of parliament has been increased.

In Westminster, London, armed policemen patrol around Parliament, which itself has been the target of several terrorist attacks in recent years.

Unlike the capital, however, in the constituencies of the legislators in many cases there is no security at all.

Ambassador Tobias Elwood, a member of Ames' party, said direct dialogue with the public was a necessary part of the work, but he spoke of great anxiety among MPs and called for the meetings with voters to be phoned or "zoomed in".

Labor member Diane Abbott said she would prefer to meet her constituents behind a screen to prevent similar attacks, and Kim Lidbitter, Joe Cox's sister, said her partner had asked her to resign as a Member of Parliament following the murder of Ames.
