As part of a tour to display Syrian antiquities in a number of Chinese cities, the Nanshan Museum in Shenzhen continues to receive its visitors.

The exhibition, which opened on August 4, includes a large number of artifacts loaned to the Chinese side specifically for this purpose, based on an agreement concluded between the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums and the Foundation for Art Exhibitions in China, with the support of the Syrian Embassy in Beijing and the Chinese National Cultural Heritage Administration.

The exhibits in this exhibition came from nine Syrian museums that trace their origins back to different geographical areas and represent a rich and diverse group of Syrian civilization and heritage and go back chronologically to successive historical stages and eras. Qi Sen, director of the Nanshan Museum, told SANA reporter in Beijing: “Shenzhen is vibrant and beautiful, while the Nanshan Museum is modern and it is important to be the first stop to display the collection of Syrian cultural relics.”

He added: The Syrian civilization is historically ancient, and everyone knows the capital, Damascus, especially the old city, which is world famous, pointing out that this exhibition is the first major exhibition of Syrian cultural antiquities in China, and is also the first to specifically present Syrian history and civilization.

In a similar statement, the cultural and media affairs official at the Syrian embassy in Beijing, Dr. Fadi Wassouf, indicated that the exhibition of Syrian antiquities in China constitutes a distinguished step in the framework of promoting civilizational and cultural exchange between the two countries and expresses the two sides' continuous desire to develop the relationship between them at all levels.

He pointed out that despite the obstacles imposed by the spread of the Corona epidemic and the accompanying restrictions on movement and travel procedures, the two sides were able to overcome these obstacles and move towards the establishment of the exhibition, which gives an additional indication of the two countries' constant insistence on expanding horizons of cooperation and developing joint ties.

The exhibition will continue until the 7th of next November before moving to its second stop in Jinsha Fair in Sichuan Province to provide a greater opportunity for Chinese friends to view antiquities. The exhibition tour will continue in several Chinese cities for two years, allowing more Chinese citizens to learn about the history and civilization in Syria and contribute to Deepening relations between the two friendly countries.
