Otterfing: Wood chip store is on fire - fire brigade on a large scale

On Sunday, Rauch rose from a wood chip warehouse in the Otterfinger industrial park.

In order to put out the fire, the emergency services excavated the pit.

The mission lasted.

Otterfing - When Florian Mang saw the superficial smoke rising from the wood chips in the warehouse of a heater in the Otterfing industrial park on Sunday morning, the commander of the Otterfing fire brigade already suspected that he and his comrades could face a major mission.

Around 40 cubic meters of wood chips are in the pit next to the Lechermann car dealership on Hienlohestrasse.

It supplies a "larger system", as Mang describes, which heats industrial buildings.

The operator had asked the commander at around 10 a.m. to take a look at the smoke.

Mang realizes: If the smoke comes from the depths of the camp, the fire brigade first has to work its way through to break out.

This will take a while.

The fear is confirmed.

The firefighters use an excavator to pull hot wood chips from the pit layer by layer, lay them down in a safe place next to them and extinguish them.

The upper layers are hot, some wood chips are smoldering.

But the glowing nest is deep.

At first the otter fingers work alone.

Later they also alert their comrades from Arget and Holzkirchen.

In the end, 57 fire fighters, including ten respiratory protection teams, fight the fire.

The rescue service is on site for safety, but does not have to intervene: nobody is injured.

The mission continues into the afternoon.

The emergency services take around three quarters of the wood chips out of the pit until the fire finally goes out around 3 p.m., i.e. after around five hours of use.

Mang describes the operation as "not complicated, but tedious".

Buildings have never been in danger, says Mang.

The cause of the fire is open.

A technical defect is possible.
