The police stopped the criminal investigation against prison guards and IPS officers at Gilboa Prison for the escape of the prisoners last month, Israel Today has learned.
Although the police have begun collecting evidence and even questioning a jailer with a warning - the matter will be investigated and examined by the government commission of inquiry which is expected to begin its work in the next two weeks.
As stated, on September 29, the police announced that they had completed a joint investigation regarding the escape of the six security prisoners from Gilboa Prison and other people involved, and a prosecutor's statement was filed against them through the State Attorney's Office.
On September 6, the Israel Police received a report of the escape of security prisoners from Gilboa Prison during the night.
Upon receipt of the report, the security forces - the Israel Police / Northern District, the Shin Bet and the IDF, launched an extensive manhunt using a variety of technological and intelligence means.
The escape investigation was assigned to a joint investigation team of the National Unit for International Investigations (Yahaval) in Lahav 433 and the General Security Service, and it led to the capture of the six prisoners after about two weeks. The escaped prisoners along with the other suspects were extended from time to time.
It should be emphasized that during the investigation, testimony was obtained from the prison commander and other guards and a prisoner was interrogated with a warning, but now the investigative procedure has been stopped and the responsibility for exposing the criminal failures, if any, rests with the investigation committee.
