Riders from Northern Germany meet at Hubertus Hunt

Autumn is the time of drag hunts: Around 60 riders from northern Germany and 22 dogs from the Lower Saxony pack took part in the traditional Hubertus hunt in Meitze in Wedemark near Hanover on Sunday.

Around 30 obstacles were set up on the 14-kilometer route across grassland, fields and forests, said Helmut Bäßmann from the Meitze hunting community, which had invited to the drag hunt.

In the traditional drag hunt, a small group rides ahead.

The so-called tow-layers drip an artificial attractant onto the ground as a trail.

In Meitze an oily aniseed milk was used for this.

Then the dogs of the Lower Saxony pack, so-called foxhounds, take this trail, followed by the riders.

Animals are not harmed in the drag hunt.
