In an online petition, Helga Schuller makes suggestions for more safety on the streets of the village.

Dorfen

- Helga Schuller has known road traffic all her life.

She grew up directly on the B 15 in Dorfen.

And Munich-Riem, where she lived for a few years, is not exactly known as an oasis of calm.

When she returned in 2015, however, “I was really shocked,” says the 46-year-old interior designer.

Now her daughter Eva is in the second grade and Schuller no longer just wants to watch the daily life of the village get more dangerous.

She raised her concerns at the citizens' meeting, and an online petition is currently running.

"We, the parents of the Dorfen schoolchildren, are working together for more safety on the way to school in Dorfen," is the first sentence of the petition text, in which there are many concrete suggestions.

In a graphic, Schuller shows nine particular danger points in the city center.

The Herzoggraben is shown as a red ring.

As a circular route, it could be the solution for pedestrians.

For the children at the Mühlanger elementary school, for example, this is the fairground.

Many go over there in the morning and at noon.

“The situation is dire,” says the worried mother.

“That is zero regulated.

There are no parking bays or anything like that. ”That means: the place is parked with cars and trucks, buses and mum taxis maneuvering - especially for children an often confusing and dangerous situation.

Schuller's suggestion: a marked driving and walking corridor in the area of the green belt to the south.

The boys and girls could walk there without getting in the way of the cars.

"I've called the city a few times and made the suggestion," says the woman from the village.

The answer: It's not that easy.

“I don't want to rant, I want to initiate conversations,” says Schuller. Initial considerations for a “dialogue forum” are already under way, a meeting, for example in a pub, where parents, city councilors, hopefully the mayor and other interested parties will talk about solutions to the traffic problem in Dorfen. Town hall chief Heinz Grundner has known Schuller's arguments since the town hall meeting. Your hope that the subject will be discussed in the October meeting of the city council has not been fulfilled.

Dorfen has long been dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians.

"The chaos caused by the construction sites is now added," says Schuller with a view to the current permanent traffic jam on the B 15. But it will get worse.

"With regard to the renovation of the B 15 bridge next year and the resulting diversions, we urge the city to act quickly," Schuller writes in the petition.

According to their concept, the Herzoggraben could have a special function.

“It would be accessible all around, but it is not used,” says the resident, describing the location.

The route could act as a “border” to the city center and a “distributor” for pedestrians and cyclists.

Schuller's vision: "a safe, historical circular route around Dorfen".

The 46-year-old from village looks at the topic with her experiences as a cyclist and mom of a second grader at the primary school south.

Since she has been online with her petition, however, she has received feedback from all over the village.

Parents of children at the North Elementary School have already contacted her, as have families from Moosen Monastery or Hampersdorf.

And the mom-taxis in front of the schools, don't they aggravate the problem enormously?

“It's such a chicken and egg problem.

If the children could go to school safely, then maybe their parents would let their parents walk too, ”says the mother.

"That way, children and pedestrians just miss out."

The petition on the Internet

By Friday, 180 supporters had already joined the online petition.
