Venezuela announced its withdrawal from talks with the opposition backed by Washington in Mexico in protest against the handover of a member of its delegation to the talks to the United States.
The Telesur channel quoted the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, head of the government delegation to the talks, as saying yesterday that the Bolivarian government delegation withdrew from the talks table as a protest measure against the handover of the powers of the Republic of Cape Verde, the diplomat Alex Saab to the United States.
Rodriguez condemned the position of the authorities in Cape Verde, which ignored the numerous rulings issued by regional and international organizations, and demanded his release, recalling in this context the demands of the Economic Community of West African States Court and the United Nations Human Rights Committee to stop a difficult extradition decision.
Rodriguez expressed his dissatisfaction with Saab’s torture and refusal to allow him to meet with his family members or adequate health care, stressing that the refusal to stop the decision to extradite him is evidence of the complicity of the Cape Verdean government and the United States in the ongoing campaign against the Bolivarian nation, a new act of aggression against Venezuela, a violation of the Vienna diplomatic agreements and a difficult situation The diplomat and representatives of the political talks, and therefore the Venezuelan government will not participate in the round of talks scheduled for today.
Rodriguez blamed Colombian President Ivan Duque, American Joe Biden and representatives of the right-wing opposition for any setbacks in the talks due to this diplomatic incident, which aims mainly to thwart the Venezuelan local elections scheduled for next month, calling for the release of Saab, who is facing danger immediately.
