A pumpkin breeder from Prignitz won the traditional competition for the heaviest pumpkin in the Agroneum Alt Schwerin (Mecklenburg Lake District) on Sunday.
Andreas Kiefel's magnificent specimen weighed more than six hundredweight, exactly 307 kilograms, at the pumpkin festival on Sunday.
As museum director Anke Gutsch said, the 42-year-old IT specialist from Reckenzin near Karstädt was 30 kilograms ahead of the runner-up, last year's winner Fiete Stutz from Röbel.
Alt Schwerin / Karstädt - This time the 13-year-old's family even had two pumpkins at the start, which came in second at 277 kilos and third at 263 kilos.
At the pumpkin festival in the Agricultural History Museum, hobby breeders from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg look for the heaviest autumn fruits of the year.
The second-placed student from Röbel had recently won the title three times, in 2020 with a 250 kilogram copy.
The year 2021 was a good pumpkin year, explained the gardening experts.
It was not too warm and there was enough rain.
