As fuel oil has passed the symbolic euro bar, suppliers face an overflow of demands from worried consumers.

After the prices of gas, electricity and gasoline, it is now that of fuel oil which is reaching new heights.

The symbolic bar of 1 euro per liter was crossed last week.

This Monday, October 18, the price of ordinary fuel oil reached a peak of 1,034 euros per 1,000 liters against 668 euros over the same period a year ago.

Driven by the price of crude oil from which it is extracted and the onset of cold weather, suppliers have seen demand soar for several weeks. “

Since the beginning of October, it's been madness,

” confirms Pierre-Louis Mermet, president of M-Energy, owner of the energy suppliers F3C, Rossi Energy and K9. “

We could compare what is happening now to what happened during the Covid. People are making provisions in anticipation,

”he explains. For these three energy suppliers operating over a large part of the territory, the current problems are the same: "

The fuel oil supply is not in phase with current demand

".add "

logistical problems and the lack of delivery drivers

".

Additional delivery time

For the boss of F3C, requests for delivery of fuel oil to individuals began earlier than usual with tensions observed since September 15.

Usually fuel oil orders are made from November,

” he explains.

If the supply continues, the boss is concerned about dealing with just-in-time demand.

The group, which employs around fifty drivers, is forced to extend delivery times - normally from 3 days - up to two or even three weeks and the drivers deliver 20 customers per day compared to 12 or 13 in normal times.

"

When possible, we ask to deliver 500 liters instead of 1000 to 2000 for a tank in normal times

", adds the president of M-Energy.

Today, nearly 3 million French homes are heated with fuel oil, including around 500,000 in the Rhône-Alpes region and the equivalent in Île-de-France.

The rise in prices and the pressure on demand are occurring in a global context of soaring energy prices.

The executive has already announced on September 30 that it will "

block gas prices"

until April thanks to a

"tariff shield"

before announcing a second tariff shield on electricity prices. .

Measures are also being studied to increase fuel prices.
