1.88 euros for a liter of diesel - the prices at a gas station at the A7 service station Hildesheimer Börde Ost near Schellerten were among the top values in Germany on Monday.
"That is enormous," said a spokeswoman for the ADAC automobile club.
On average, the price for diesel nationwide on Monday was 1.55 euros, according to their information.
"It's been the highest price since it was recorded - that's about 30 years."
Hildesheim - premium gasoline was about ten cents higher, on the Hildesheim stock exchange even at 2.069 euros.
"That is a shame and dramatic for the commuters," said the spokeswoman.
Not everyone has the opportunity to get everywhere by other means of transport.
The fuel prices have been rising for months.
The main driver is the oil price.
