At least 30 people were killed and others wounded in an armed attack in Sokoto state, northern Nigeria.
Reuters quoted state governor Aminu Waziri Tambowal as saying in a statement today, "The gunmen attacked a market in Goroneo district yesterday and opened fire indiscriminately yesterday and continued until this morning, killing at least 30 people and wounding others."
The Sokoto regions, like other neighboring states in the northwestern part of Nigeria, are subject to a communications ban as part of a security operation to prevent armed gangs from carrying out their operations.
