A Pakistani citizen is suspected of murdering his two daughters, four grandchildren and another man yesterday (Sunday) after setting fire to a pavilion in Musefgarhara province because he was furious about the marriage of one of them against his will.

This was reported in the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

According to the report, the police forces who arrived at the scene were exposed to the shocking sight: sooty bodies of a 65-year-old man, two women aged 35 and 19, three boys aged 12, 10 and three, and a two-month-old toddler.

It was the husband of one of the women who called the rescue forces, after returning from work and discovering the awful sight at home.

"When I arrived, I saw my wife's father and brother fleeing," he said.

"Her father was furious that she had married someone she loved and not in the usual way."

The Pakistani police said that "the bodies were taken for a forensic examination and the arson investigation is in progress".

At the same time, the reason why none of the occupants of the house woke up after the fire broke out is being investigated.

"A manhunt is underway for the suspected father," Pakistani police officials told Reuters.

Like other countries, violence against women is a serious problem in Pakistan.

Every year no less than hundreds of women are murdered by their husbands.

This is according to data from the Pakistan Human Rights Commission.

However, this shocking murder is a new and particularly serious record in the Central Asian country.
