Hello, I am Dr. Elmer Huerta and this is your dose of information about the new coronavirus, information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Today we will answer some questions that we have been asked on our Twitter account @DrHuerta.

Question about booster doses of covid-19 vaccines

@drhuerta

I was vaccinated with

fatigue

in May

I have hypothyroidism and I learned in July that it is because I have Hashimoto's disease.

Can I get another vaccine?

- paola murguia (@paocoru) October 16, 2021

Hi Paola, Hashimoto's disease is considered an autoimmune disease, in which the thyroid gland is attacked by its own defense system.

In that sense, knowing that autoimmune diseases can be a risk factor for complications from covid-19, I think you should receive a booster dose, which should be the one recommended by the Ministry of Health in your country.

Questions about vaccines in young people

@drhuerta hello dr.

In my country, vaccination in children is not yet approved, my daughter is 12 years old and received only 1 dose of pfizer on a tourist trip but she did not get the second dose and 9 weeks have already passed since her vaccination.

What would be the new scheme to follow?

- Karina Calderon (@ KarinaC77693825) October 15, 2021

Hi Karina.

First of all, it is very important that when receiving the first dose of a vaccine, one should make sure that they will receive the second as well.

Your child is partially protected and should complete the second dose at any time with one from Pfizer, which is the only vaccine licensed for emergency use in adolescents 12-15 years of age.

Good afternoon Dr Huerta, a question if you are not yet 18 years old, but you will do it in December, is the astrazeneca vaccine reliable?

Or should they put Pfizer x age?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

- Vane (@rcpvane) October 17, 2021

Hi Vane, the World Health Organization recommends the AstraZeneca vaccine for those over 18 years of age, while the Pfizer vaccine can be used in people over 12 years of age.

I think it is safe for you to use any of the vaccines.

Questions about the vaccine mix

@drhuerta greeting, Dr.

One question, I got vaccinated in USA with Moderna (2 doses, I complete the scheme then) in May.

Here in Mexico I get the vaccine tomorrow, but they will give me Astra zeneca.

Do you think it is convenient for me to get vaccinated again with a different vaccine?

- Ares (@Ares_GodofWwar) October 15, 2021

Hi Ares.

If you are under 65 years of age, do not suffer from any chronic disease that predisposes you to the complication and you are not a worker exposed to the infection, you do not need booster doses yet, much less combine it with another vaccine.

@drhuerta, is there a risk to get a 2nd dose of a Covid vaccine after 12 days of the 1st dose and is it a different vaccine?

- YOLO ❤ (@ LYOO17) October 13, 2021

Hi, Yolo.

Twelve days of interval between the first and second doses of a vaccine is a very short time, and I don't think it makes sense either that you want to use another type of vaccine.

I think you should follow the directions for use of the vaccine that you used as the first dose.

Question about post-vaccination infection

@drhuerta GOOD MORNING. HE GAVE ME COVID19 WHEN HE PUT ME THE SECOND DOSE OF THE CHINA, HE GAVE ME STRONG WHAT HAPPENS WITH THAT VACCINE IS IT LOST?

WHAT A PECAUTION TO TAKE AFTER THIS

- ana (@anacprimera) October 13, 2021

Excellent question, Ana. After nearly 10 months of vaccine use in billions of people, we have unfortunately learned that - with the appearance of the delta variant - the protection of all vaccines against symptomatic disease is lost over the months.

That is true for vaccines of any source of manufacture.

Fortunately, the protection of all vaccines - including those made in China - against serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and death exceeds 90%.

Other questions about vaccines

Dr and do you know about using Sinopharm for Nursing Mothers?

I only find studies by Pfizer and in Peru they apply Sinopharm to nursing mothers and there seems to be no protocol or registry.

Thank you if you can reveal my question.

- cporlles (@cporlles) October 13, 2021

Hello Cporlles.

According to the World Health Organization, it is safe to give the Sinopharm vaccine to both pregnant and lactating women.

Dr Huerta, how effective is the astrazeneca vaccine?

That is the one they have designated for young people from 18 to 19 years old.

Is the Pfizer not more effective?

- mariattney (@ mariattneygmai1) October 12, 2021

Hi Maria, excellent question.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is approximately 93% effective against serious illness and the possibility of hospitalization.

The Pfizer vaccine has about the same level of protection against serious disease.

Is there any comment for the verocell vaccines ???

- francisco sanchez b (@ fcosanchez65) October 10, 2021

Hello Francisco.

Vero Cell is not the name of any vaccine.

Vero Cell is the name of a type of culture or cell line that is used in the manufacture of vaccines.

Scientists use Vero Cells to test whether or not the vaccine they are making is effective in killing the virus they are studying.

The Chinese CoronaVac vaccines from the Sinovac and Sinopharm laboratories use, among others, Vero Cells for their manufacture and even print them on the labels of their products.

The World Health Organization includes Vero Cell in the name of the Sinopharm vaccine, and the European Medicines Agency names it in the description of the Sinovac vaccine.

Dr how are you, a consultation in this pandemic I suffered from stress without recognizing it and felt shortness of breath, after 1 year I identified it and now I am better, I don't know if it is fear or it is a sequel but I cannot run, I feel that it shook me fast, any advice from you, thanks

- José Nolasco (@Joseliasng) October 17, 2021

Hello Jose.

I'm really sorry for what you're going through, but you don't tell me how you got over what you call stress.

In any case, I suggest you visit your family doctor for a comprehensive evaluation and to determine if you have any physical problem that explains your symptoms.

If the physical exam is normal, I suggest seeing a mental health professional.
