Johann Selmair was torn from the middle of life.

The LDW City Council passed away completely unexpectedly.

Dürneibach

- The death of the LDW city council and BBV chairman Johann Selmair caused concern among everyone who knew the senior farmer.

Selmair leaves his wife Maria and their two sons Mathias and Johannes with their families.

He died in hospital last Tuesday at the age of 66 as a result of an extremely rare viral infection.

Johann Selmair was a calm, personable person, humorous, interested in many things and committed.

As a farmer out of conviction, his whole heart has always been attached to agriculture.

He ran a dairy farm in Dürneibach.

The sons had been in the business for a long time and now continue to run the farm.

The family has had to cope with a number of strokes of fate in the past few years.

While Johann Selmair was on vacation with his wife, a major fire broke out on the farm at Christmas 2018.

Then the senior fell seriously ill in 2019 and had only just recovered well from it.

Now this new stroke of fate for the family.

Like the entire city council, Mayor Heinz Grunder was “deeply shocked” when he learned of Selmair's death. The news was "dramatic" for Grundner: "A human tragedy". The mayor has Selmair as "a very, very fine person, politically as well as human". In 2002 Grundner (CSU) was elected to the city council together with Selmair (Landliste Dorfen West). This was followed by 20 years of "very pleasant, very good cooperation" with the deceased. Selmair, as Grundner described, “as a basically down-to-earth member, always calmly carried out practical work” and thus shaped the development of town and country.

Selmair has contributed his experience to the city council in several committees. From Grundner, the deceased took over the department of the charitable Nikolai Foundation of the City of Dorfen in 2008 and carried it on with care. It was very important to him to use funds from the foundation to help people in need and needy villagers. He was also a member of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Dorfen and in the department for agriculture and energy management.

Selmair was not only politically involved. For many years he was the local chairman of the Zeilhofen-Dorfen local association in the Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV). In 2016 he was elected local chairman of the enlarged Dorfen branch following the amalgamation of the local branches of Dorfen, Watzling and Eibach. Among other things, he was deputy chairman of the Erding-Ost water association for many years and a member of the Zeilhofen fire brigade and the local rifle club.

A friend and long-time political companion of the deceased is City Councilor Martin Heilmeier. Together both sat on the committee for the Landliste Dorfen West. After the establishment of the Landliste Selmair was involved in local politics there. In the city council, "his calm manner and common sense were valued," emphasizes Heilmeier. Most of the time, Selmair didn't say much, "but when he did, his contributions had a hand and foot."

Selmair's interests were varied and focused not only on his immediate homeland, but on the entire surrounding area and the city of Dorfen.

"Hans always exuded calm," says Heilmeier, describing his former city council colleague.

He was a person who “was concerned with justice in all matters.

And as a farmer, the concerns of agriculture were particularly close to his heart, for which he has always stood up ”.

Renate Döllel is the LDW successor for Selmair, provided that she takes up the office.

The funeral service

with Father Stephan Waxenberger takes place this Monday at 1 p.m. in the parish church in Dorfen.

Johann Selmair is then buried in the family grave at the cemetery in Landersdorf.
