At the end of August, the Bundestag extended the “epidemic situation of national importance” for a further three months.

It expires automatically if it is not renewed by Parliament.

The "epidemic situation" gives federal and state governments powers to issue regulations on corona measures * such as mask requirements, distance and contact restrictions or to obtain vaccines.

It is therefore the basis of all Corona rules.

What does the turning away from the "epidemic situation of national scope" mean for the corona situation in the country? It is not to be expected that all the rules will fall. Spahn is supposed to have said: “So we are coming from the state of emergency into a state of particular caution. From today's perspective, the normal state will only be possible in the spring of next year. ”It is still essential to observe the corona measures indoors. It is not clear to which areas this applies exactly.

A so-called Freedom Day was recently discussed in Germany. The day on which all corona restrictions will be lifted. Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder * told

: "One thing is clear: If the Bundestag no longer extends the epidemic situation, this will probably mean the end of all security requirements". Because then the basis and legal basis for the infection protection ordinances of the federal states would cease to exist. According to Spahn, it is likely that the Bundestag will let the emergency run out. Söder: "Then we indirectly have Freedom Day at the end of November."

The 7-day incidence in Germany has meanwhile increased for the sixth day in a row.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the value of new Corona * infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning (October 18) as 74.4.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 72.7, a week ago it was 66.5 (previous month: 72.0).
