These - children and relatives of the deceased often no longer live in the region and have no way of tending the grave themselves. Even if one partner dies in an elderly couple, the remaining old partner is usually hardly able to look after a conventional grave site. In the cemetery of the market town of Dießen there is now an "all-round carefree" grave site that relieves the bereaved from the duty and burden of tending the grave.

This new form of urn burial has now been presented by Mayor Sandra Perzul and Anna Lampl from the Public Order Office. Right next to the St. Johann cemetery church is the urn community grave, planted in fresh autumn colors, for eight single and double urn spaces. In the middle is the stele created by Landsberg stonemason Sepp, on which the names of the 24 deceased are immortalized on bronze plaques. The facility was implemented at the suggestion of the Dießen Seniors' Advisory Board following a resolution by the local council. If there is more demand, a second area is provided immediately behind it. Only biodegradable urns are permitted.

The facility is called “carefree” because maintenance is guaranteed for ten years by the trust company Bayerischer Friedhofsgärtner. Specifically in Dießen through the Streicher cemetery nursery. Urn grave, name plaque, maintenance and planting in every season have a fixed price. In addition to the municipal ten-year cemetery fee of 103 euros for a single grave and 193 euros for a partner grave, there is a maintenance contract with the trust company. A single grave costs a one-time fee of 1,155 euros for ten years, a partner grave 2,310 euros. While a single grave site in the carefree urn facility can only be purchased in the event of a current death, prior reservation is possible for partner graves.

For years there has been a nationwide trend towards easy-care offers such as urn, lawn or tree burials.

Especially since cremations are cheaper than traditional burials.

According to industry estimates, almost two-thirds of the approximately one million people who die each year now opt for cremation.

The Federal Association of German Undertakers expects a further increase.

This development has now also been taken into account in Dießen.
