EU Foreign Minister Joseph Burrell today (Monday) denied the Iranian foreign minister's claims that a preparatory meeting for a return to nuclear talks is expected during the week.
The minister denied the report, which was published in his agent Tahidai Fares, during a brief interview he gave to the media in Luxembourg, where he attended a meeting of the EU Foreign Ministry.
However, Burrell expressed optimism about Iran's return to talks and said: "I am much more optimistic today than I was yesterday. I hope that in the coming weeks we will be able to hold a preparatory meeting in Brussels.
Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian announced yesterday that he will resume talks with EU representatives to revive the nuclear deal as early as next week, the Lebanese news network close to the Iranian al-Miyadin axis reported.
According to the Iranian Foreign Minister, who spoke during the Iranian Parliament's rowing council meeting, no confirmation has yet been received from other parties involved in the talks and it is unclear whether progress has been made between the parties.
The negotiations are intended to bring the United States back to the 2015 nuclear deal and remove the heavy sanctions imposed on Iran by the government of former President Donald Trump.
