A number of apps enable drivers to check the current fuel prices at petrol stations in their area.

The Bundeskartellamt has listed a total of 56 such consumer applications on its website.
The ADAC offers a search function for cheap petrol stations on its website.
The petrol station search is also available as an app for iOS and Android smartphones under the name “ADAC Spritpreise”.
The “Clever Tanken” app, available for iOS, Android and Windows phones, also shows the cheapest petrol station in the area.
Users can also activate an alarm that sends a message to them when a set low price is reached.
The app cooperates with the HEM petrol stations - if you find a lower price at another petrol station, you can go to a HEM petrol station with a screenshot of the cheaper offer and refuel there exclusively at the lower price.
Where is the cheapest fuel along the motorway?
Off the autobahn, fuel prices are often significantly cheaper than at rest stops or even in neighboring countries.
According to a survey by the ADAC, there are significant price differences between rest stops and truck stops: the liter E10 is on average 26 cents cheaper at truck stops off the autobahn, with diesel the difference is 25 cents.
In some cases the difference is as much as 39 cents per liter of petrol and 34 cents per liter of diesel.
How can you save fuel?
An economical driving style is good for the environment and your wallet.
The ADAC recommends timely upshifting at an engine speed of around 2000 revolutions per minute and generally driving at a low engine speed.
Drivers should only shift down when the engine jerks or starts to hum.
Drivers should also pay attention to the correct tire pressure.
Anticipatory driving can also help, because braking wastes energy.
The engine brake should therefore be used for as long as possible; in a locality, drivers should take off the accelerator early and not brake abruptly.
Anyone who is likely to stand still for more than 20 seconds, for example at a red light, should also switch off the engine.
