Gap and bleak prospects: The Union is staggering - and Söder goes to the musical

Traffic light plans and Laschet's responsibility: The weekend brought some liberation to the Union - but above all there are pressing questions, comments Marcus Mäckler.

The traffic light decision on Friday also has something liberating for the Union: The Jamaica dreams are over, further tactics are superfluous, the CDU / CSU are now mentally setting up in the opposition.

One less construction site, you could say - lucky.

The work demand inside is enormous enough.

After all, the JU meeting was used for step one: leaving the post-election rigor and entering into the process of coming to terms with it.

As blatant as the failures of the past were, the prospects for the future seem bleak: Who should pull the cart with which contents out of the mud?

That is a mystery even after the weekend when the party just agreed on the rush that the CDU and CSU would have to stick together better in the future.

Even the head of the CSU, Markus Söder, felt compelled to say that, and although he found time to visit a musical and give interviews, the JU canceled at short notice.

Shirking, however, does not get the Union any further.

The party, in deep turmoil, must quickly find its way into the internal offensive and answer pressing questions.

This includes the speed and mode of the search for a new boss, an honest programmatic assessment and the question of how the (re) connection to the base succeeds.

Some promised that the Union would be a constructive opposition.

It is quite possible that she will first dive into herself.
