Italian police used violence to disperse demonstrators who gathered at one of the gates of the port of Trieste in the northern province of Friuli-Lienzia Giulia to protest against forcing employees to obtain a green pass at workplaces.
And the Italian news agency "ANSA" reported that riot police opened water cannons on the demonstrators at the fourth gate of the port of Trieste, while the demonstrators chanted slogans "We never give up", demanding freedom.
As the police advanced towards the gate, a number of protesters tried to discuss law enforcement authorities to find a peaceful solution, saying that there had been no violence so far.
Commenting on the matter, League leader Matteo Salvini said: The Ministry of the Interior is using fire hoses today against peaceful workers and citizens in Trieste.
The demonstrations began last Friday when the Italian government imposed a green pass in workplaces.
It is estimated that about 40 percent of Trieste port workers do not have the green document.
Italian authorities fear the protest in Trieste could cause major disruption and lead to similar actions elsewhere in the country.
