Hezbollah secretary general Hassan Nasrallah said tonight (Monday) that the deadly clashes between Hezbollah and Christian militias in Beirut, Lebanon's capital, are "critical and dangerous." He said last Thursday that seven people had been killed

. Hezbollah sent its condolences to the families of those killed in the "massacre."

Nasrallah demands a speedy investigation of the events in Beirut and the prosecution of those responsible.

He said the organization has one hundred thousand armed fighters, and he "has never been stronger."

He added that the Lebanese army is essential in preventing civil war and no one should incite against it.

The violent incidents occurred during a protest that erupted following a court decision to resume investigating the disaster at the port, which was temporarily halted last week following a petition by senior officials suspected in the case.

The clashes also took place against the background of the severe economic crisis that Lebanon is suffering from.

The shooting took place on the border between a Shiite neighborhood and a Christian neighborhood, which was one of the front lines of the Civil War that opened in 1975 and ended in 1990.

Documents posted on social media showed heavy exchanges of fire and even the launch of an RPG rocket.

In the al-Jadid channel, people were seen taking shelter in the background of gunfire, which came from tall buildings.

The violence on Thursday was the worst the Beirut has known since 2008.
