Will the traffic light coalition make the joint legal for people over the age of 18?
The police union (GdP) clearly rejects these plans.

- SPD, Greens and FDP can imagine that the new traffic light coalition in the federal government will legalize soft drugs. The joint could then be legal for people over the age of 18. The police union (GdP) shares a clear rejection of these plans. The deputy GdP state chairman, Florian Leitner from Erding, told our newspaper: “We are very critical of this development. It would be a big mistake to downplay cannabis according to the motto 'A joint, what's in it?' ”This would open the door to a dangerous drug.
Leitner warns against using cannabis "softly", "since the health dangers and social conflicts that arise from drug consumption explicitly represent an uncontrollable risk in the area of children, adolescents and young adults." Cannabis is addictive and is a gateway drug to harder substances. In addition, the police chief inspector fears that with a clearance, the inhibition threshold to consume cannabis will decrease. "The assumption that this will fight the black market is simply wrong, because drugs such as cannabis, for example, are still being sold to minors," says Leitner with conviction.
He also makes it clear that legalization in no way relieves the burden of the police, "since the release will result in increased consumption of cannabis and thus also more criminal offenses and traffic accidents under the influence of drugs." It is already observed that the number of attacks on police officers is steadily increasing rise.
These acts are often related to alcohol, but especially drug abuse.
“The GdP therefore clearly rejects the request - for our entire society,” said Leitner.
