CHRONICLE - The President of Turkey is on a three-day tour of West Africa. A journey that is part of an already old strategy.


Recep Tayyip Erdogan left on October 17, 2021 for a three-day tour of West Africa, which will take him successively to Angola, Nigeria and Togo.

What is he going to do in the Gulf of Guinea, so far from home?

Why are these three countries of Portuguese, English and French influences interested in them?

Is its objective only economic, aimed at supporting large Turkish public works companies, capable of building infrastructure that is cheaper than their European competitors and of better quality than their Chinese competitors?

Does he want to encourage the African deployment of Turkish Airlines, which already serves 58 different destinations in Africa?

This trip is in fact part of an already long-standing African strategy of the Turkish president.

It is a policy which is almost twenty years old and which takes up a very old tradition of the Ottoman Empire.
