The Elysee polls trial begins without Sarkozy

It opened Monday afternoon in front of the 32nd chamber of the Court of Paris, twelve years after the first report of the Court of Auditors which pinned the presidential services.


"I have the impression of finding myself once again immersed in the debates of ten years ago"

On the defendants' bench were the close guard of the former head of state: his ex-secretary general Claude Guéant, Emmanuelle Mignon, who was then chief of staff, Julien Vaupré, former adviser, and Patrick Buisson, accused, like Pierre Giacometti, concealment of favoritism.

The two former advisers to the president are accused of having invoiced, during the five-year term, surveys ordered without a call for tenders.
