Sonja Hohmann from Sachsenkam has now received a very special award: the long-time chairwoman of the German Professional Association for Nursing Professions (DBfK) Southeast received the Bavarian Prime Minister's honor for services in honorary office.

This honors, among other things, Hohmann's services to professional care.

According to a statement from the DBfK, Sachsenkam - Hohmann was a member of the board for a total of 20 years, including 13 years as chairman of the board.

In July she resigned her office and did not run again in the regular new elections.

"In the many years of her tireless commitment to professional care, Sonja Hohmann has given the DBfK a face and represented the association in committees, at trade fairs or in panel discussions," the message continues.

The 57-year-old had helped shape the DBfK's fortunes: During her time on the board, for example, the structural reform of the association and the merger of the DBfK office and the Bavarian Nursing Academy fell into one house.

Also committed to hospice work

“In my professional political work, it was important to me not to give up, but to keep fighting. After many years I can say that I am proud of what I have achieved, ”says Hohmann. "We have managed to position ourselves well on the political level." Meanwhile, it has been received everywhere that it would no longer work without the DBfK, "that politics needs our expertise, for example to write opinions," said Hohmann. Politicians would ask for advice, “We sit on appropriate committees and help shape care. These are great results ”.

The qualified nurse works as home management at the Marianne Strauss Clinic, a specialist clinic for multiple sclerosis in Berg am Starnberger See.

She also received the medal for her commitment as chairwoman of the Chorella Sachsenkam women's choir, as a member of the supervisory board of the Christophorus Hospice in Munich and for her commitment to the Oberland diving club.
