However, severe courses rarely occur.

The numbers make it clear: The Covid vaccination works against severe courses of the disease.

District - In the district of Munich there have been 670 vaccination breakthroughs so far.

According to the district office, 29 of these were people who had to be treated in the hospital.

The numbers are also proof that the Covid vaccination protects against severe courses.

A vaccination breakthrough occurs when three points are met: complete vaccination status, a positive PCR test and symptoms.

These vaccination breakthroughs are "very, very often" due to existing multiple immune deficiencies, said District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) at a press conference on Monday.

General practitioners in the district also certify protection from serious illnesses through vaccination.

Six deaths after breakthrough vaccination

Six people who were infected with the virus despite being completely vaccinated have died, according to the district administration.

The district office emphasized, however, that the people who died suffered from “at least” one serious pre-existing illness.

In the past seven days, seven people from the Munich district had to be treated in hospital for a coronavirus infection, said District Administrator Göbel.

The value would correspond to a hospitalization incidence, measured per 100,000 inhabitants, of 2.0.

For the hospital traffic light, however, the district value does not play a role.

Only when the Bavaria-wide limit values are exceeded do new everyday restrictions come into force.

In Bavaria, the traffic light is currently green, 261 intensive care beds are occupied with Covid patients across Bavaria, according to the district administration.

Intensive care beds: "From my point of view, that's even dramatic"

Goebel has concerns about the availability of intensive care beds in hospitals. Due to personnel problems, this would decrease, he reports. There would be considerably fewer intensive care beds available than previously thought. “From my point of view, that's even dramatic,” he said. Although there is no threat of "acute non-care" in intensive care units, the burden on the nursing staff is high. Therefore, once again Göbel's appeal: vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

So far, almost 243,000 people in the Munich district have been fully immunized against Covid-19, and more than 8,300 people have already had a booster vaccination.

Göbel assumes that the vaccination rate in the Munich district is "above average".

Because “highly enlightened” people with a high level of education live in the district, he said.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 63.5 percent of the population in Bavaria is fully vaccinated.

Demand for tests sagged significantly

The demand for corona tests has dropped significantly since the beginning of last week.

The new test regulation has been in effect since Monday, October 11th, antigen and PCR tests have to be paid for by citizens in most cases.

While there were over 8,200 PCR tests in the week from October 4th to 10th, there were only a little more than 2,720 tests in the past week.

Schoolchildren will continue to be tested.

There are currently positive corona cases in 63 daycare centers and schools in the district.

96 children and adolescents were infected with the virus, and a further 51 people are in quarantine.

The number of children in quarantine is significantly lower than in spring because entire classes no longer have to isolate themselves.
