Damp fields and a mixed summer delayed the maize harvest in some fields in Lower Saxony.
Many farmers had to interrupt their work in the fields because it was still too damp, the rural people announced on Monday in Hanover.
The harvest is already two weeks behind the previous year's period.
Hanover - As soon as the maize was laid in May, the development of the plants was delayed because it was too cold.
Regionally, the differences in maturity are great: the north is later than the rest of Lower Saxony.
In other areas, however, the mid-early and mid-late varieties are chopped up.
According to Landvolk, the farmers are satisfied with the yield, but there is still no information about the quality.
Mainly silage maize, but also pure fodder maize, is grown on 610,000 hectares in Lower Saxony.
