Landsberg - It is measured, checked, secured: The work in the New City Museum is in full swing, reports museum director Sonia Fischer at the annual general meeting of the Association of Museum Friends.

Nevertheless, the architect does not expect the reopening until 2025.

An exact point in time could not be given.

Because at the moment it is not certain which work is still necessary, says Fischer.

In addition, due to the narrow space in front of and behind the building, the trades could only work one after the other.

But the museum director is convinced that “good things want because”.

There is good news about the good condition of the roof, reports Fischer.

Among other things, a 14 meter long wooden beam can be seen there, excellently processed and despite its age - the museum was built from 1688 to 1693 - in the best condition.

Nevertheless, one will still have to open the eaves for the examination.

The cladding that covered the windows for more exhibition space had been removed. “That gives a completely different impression of the room,” says Fischer. In addition, you have a perfect view of the city. Thanks to windows with less UV transmission - exhibits in general and sunlight do not get along - one can maintain this view. The “stylistically beautiful” color scheme of the 368 square meter theater hall on the third floor, which was held in a “warm light gray” with dark gray bezels around the reveal, was found out - just as the entire building was designed in a picturesque manner. There is a painted canopy on the ground floor, which probably housed an altar.

After the renovation, the wall and exhibition space will be smaller overall, partly because of the open windows. In addition, they want to provide space for receptions, a café or the like on the ground floor. That is essential for a modern museum.

Fischer is currently working on the conception of the permanent exhibition, "an extremely exciting task".

In addition, preparations are underway for the exhibition in the Inselbad next year on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the current bath.

Anyone who wants to contribute a photo from their personal 'Inselbad story' - a new friendship, the lost necklace - is welcome.

For the district culture days, a “place of longing for Lech” will be organized together with students.

And a major project will also find its goal in 2022: the collection of the Herkomer Museum goes online.

All objects including metadata have been inventoried and will be made available on the homepage as open data - also an extremely important aspect for research.
