His disability did not prevent him from establishing his own project of manufacturing and filling perfumes and shampoos from natural oils. Being blind, he did not lose hope and was able, with a high will and confidence in himself, to overcome difficulties, adapt to life conditions and achieve the first steps of success.

The young man, Adel Sheikh Al-Basatneh, 21 years old, suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, which made his field of vision peripheral rather than central, and therefore his vision rate is less than 5%, as he mentioned to SANA’s delegate.

And about his beginnings in work before he reached the stage of establishing the project between Sheikh Al-Basatneh, that four years ago he worked selling jasmine and shampoo manufactured in one of the workshops at the entrance to the Hamidiya market in Damascus. A project of manufacturing and packaging perfumes and hair shampoos from natural vegetable oils, after learning how to make them from the owner of the workshop who was selling their products.

Sheikh Al-Basatneh indicated that he received support in the first steps of his project, as he was distilling jasmine flowers at home, despite the difficulty of that for him.

With the passage of time and collecting small profits from selling perfumes, young Adel expanded his project to include the manufacture of shampoo using natural materials such as nigella and some vitamins that nourish the hair bulb, as well as some types of oils for hair care.

As for marketing his products, Sheikh Al-Basatneh relies on relatives and friends and through social media, which opened a wide door for him to introduce his products, in addition to participating in exhibitions and bazaars, including the Flower Show in Tishreen Park and the Traditional Crafts Fair in Damascus Citadel.

Sheikh Al-Basatneh believes that every person has the energy and will to challenge disability and any other difficulty, overcome fear of failure, and achieve himself through work and production, regardless of the size and type of the project. With simple tools, we make success.
