London-Sana
British experts revealed today that a new strain of the mutated Delta Corona virus has been detected, causing increasing numbers of infections.
And the BBC quoted Professor Francois Balloux, director of the Institute of Genetics at University College London, as saying that it is likely to be a slightly more contagious strain.
"Nothing can compare to what we've seen with the alpha strain and the delta strain, so we're talking about something very subtle here that's currently being studied," he said, adding that the strain could potentially be up to 10 percent more transmissible.
The latest official data indicates that 6 percent of Covid cases are genetically sequenced of a new type, as this mutant was named Delta Plus.
The matter is currently undergoing tests aimed at understanding the extent of the threat that this mutation may pose.
