Two months ago, the radical Islamist Taliban took power in Afghanistan.

What does that mean for the consulate in Grünwald, some citizens ask.

Grünwald

- The flag of the former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan still hangs on the consulate building.

From the outside, at least, it seems as if the Taliban never came to power.

The Grünwald community and the Munich district office do not know what is going on in the consulate after the fall of the government.

Even ministries have no answers.

Some citizens are now worried about how things will go on with the consulate in Grünwald.

Afghanistan crisis: are the Taliban moving to the south of Munich?

One thing is certain: the garbage fees will continue to be paid to the community on a regular basis in the future.

This was reported by Mayor Jan Neusiedl (CSU) at the previous citizens' meeting.

A Grünwalder asked at the meeting: "Will the Taliban move in now?" Mayor Neusiedl did not know.

"We do not have any closer relations with the republic, so we do not know anything about how things will continue."

After the Taliban took over in Afghanistan: “Strong indications” that the consulate will continue to operate

But there are "strong indications" that the consulate should continue to operate, said the head of the community.

The mayor wanted to inquire at the district office for more information.

Are the Taliban moving to the Grünwald consulate?

District office is not responsible

The district administration will not be able to provide the town hall chief with any further information: "Consular representations are not within the influence and area of responsibility of the district office," replies the authority when asked by Münchner Merkur. Therefore no questions could be answered. The extent to which the Consulate General in Grünwald is worried about the district administration and whether a radical Islamist shift in attitudes is imminent in the consulate was left uncommented.

According to information from the ministry, "from the point of view of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Foreign Office, it is currently still completely open" how the cooperation with the missions abroad will develop.

Cooperation with the Afghan consulate general will, however, be “also necessary in the future,” a ministry spokesman said on request.

There is currently no information about changes to the consulates after the Taliban came to power.

After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan: Consulate General in Grünwald is keeping a low profile

The Consulate General in Grünwald does not answer inquiries from Münchner Merkur - as it did before.

It has also become quiet around Consul General Sifat Rahimee, who has previously been active on the Twitter news service.

His last tweet is on July 17th.

In a Facebook post on September 29, the consulate at least drew attention to technical problems in its system.

New passports cannot be issued for the time being, it says in the post.

The Afghans living in Bavaria are therefore very unhappy, as they report in our newspaper.

Because of the lack of passports, there are problems with local district offices.

Bavarian Ministry of the Interior says: wait and see

How things will proceed with the Consulate General and whether Consul Rahimee will be subordinate to the Taliban government in Kabul with immediate effect or in the future cannot be clarified at the moment.

The “further development remains to be seen”, announced the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior.
