This Monday, the government of Mexico reported through a statement that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador held talks with John Kerry, the United States special presidential envoy for climate issues.

According to the statement, an agreement was reached between both governments to ensure access to investments to facilitate the development of clean energy in Mexico.

The statement does not indicate how much investment money the Mexican government will be able to access.

López Obrador showed the progress of the “Sembrando Vida” program, a program focused on reforestation that, according to the government, is employing approximately half a million people in 20 states of the country.

The Mexican president also presented Kerry with his administration's current strategy on hydrocarbons, which has focused on avoiding the export of oil and concentrating the production of refining gasoline and derivatives for the demand of the country's domestic market.

López Obrador also mentioned to Kerry that Mexico will soon increase the use of hydraulic energy with a system of 50 dams.
