A 36-year-old suspected drug dealer from Blankenburg has had to answer at the Magdeburg district court since Tuesday.

According to the public prosecutor's office, he is said to have bought and sold drugs worth 362,000 euros in just one year.

Among them were about six kilograms of crystal with a value of around 80,000 euros.

The investigators found the man because they managed to wiretap encrypted cell phones.

Magdeburg - These crypto cell phones from the former provider Encrochat were popular among dealers because the conversations were supposedly not bugged.

The defendant is said to have owned ten such cell phones.

Several weapons were also found on him, including a pistol.

The 36-year-old silently acknowledged the reading of the indictment and did not comment on the allegations.

Judge Claudia Methling drew attention to the fact that the defendant faces a long prison sentence because of his long criminal record without a confession.

This could be over ten years.

However, the court also pointed out that several drovers, laser sights and e-shockers found in the defendant's home are not subject to criminal liability because they were housed far away from the drugs.

Several trials have already been conducted at the Magdeburg district court against criminals who had been exposed by hacking the Encrochat cell phones.

All have been sentenced to long prison terms, said court spokesman Christian Löffler.

Thanks to the success of the French police investigation, it was possible to convict dealers from the middle level.
