During the Beijing Winter Olympics torch lighting gathering ceremony, two demonstrators calling for boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics were arrested by Greek police.

The Voice of America (VOA) reported on October 19 that two Americans were prosecuted. After they were arrested, it was suspected that members of the local Greek intelligence agency participated in the interrogation.


The demonstrators arrested by the Greek police were Hong Kong social activist Shao Lan and 18-year-old Tibetan student Zuo Sang, both of whom were American citizens.

Shao Lan told VOA via internet phone that they climbed onto the metal bracket and tasted something to open a banner, but soon a security guard rushed forward to stop it.

She said: "Later, the security guard took a knife and cut the rope, (so that we were) unable to open the banner. In the process, the security guard always wanted to snatch our banner. At the same time, he kept holding the knife because he was holding With the knife, we cannot retrieve the banner."

According to Shao Lan, the Greek police arrived and arrested them. The entire demonstration lasted about 10 minutes.

She said that from the morning of October 17th until the evening, the Greek police did not provide food. At around 9 pm, the police asked the arrested person to meet with people suspected to be from the Greek National Intelligence Service.
