After the SPD and the Greens, the Berlin Left has cleared the way for a new edition of the red-green-red government coalition in the capital.
At an extraordinary state party conference on Tuesday evening, the delegates voted "with a large majority" to start coalition negotiations, the party said on Twitter.
They followed the recommendation of their state executive.
On Monday, the SPD state executive and a small state party conference of the Greens voted for corresponding recommendations from their party leaders.
According to the parties that have been ruling Berlin together since 2016, the coalition negotiations should start this week and, if possible, be concluded by the end of November.
According to the SPD, preparatory meetings of the negotiators are planned on Wednesday and Thursday.
The official start of the negotiations will then be on Friday.
The SPD with its top candidate Franziska Giffey had clearly won the election on September 26th, ahead of the Greens and the CDU, the Left was the fourth strongest force.
The SPD then sounded out with the CDU and FDP, but in the end it spoke out in favor of a new edition of its alliance with the Greens and the Left.
At the end of last week, the leaders of the SPD, the Greens and the Left recommended their parties to start coalition talks and presented an exploratory paper as a basis for working.
Accordingly, they aim to build 20,000 apartments a year, among other things.
At least 200,000 new apartments are to be built by 2030.
In dealing with the Berlin referendum on the nationalization of apartments in large housing groups, the parties agreed on a compromise.
An expert commission should examine the possibilities and requirements for implementation within one year.
It should submit a recommendation on which the Senate decides.
