More than a year has passed since the Church of the Intellect released a new song to the world.
Now the band is releasing "Look What You Became", written by Ran Elmaleh and composed by Yoram Hazan (musical arrangement and production: Itai Tzuk).
The new single will be launched in a gala performance at Barbie on November 11, hoping it will mark the end of Corona's fourth wave.
"Returning to the stages was not complete," says band member Ran Elmaleh.
"Even after they opened up the world of culture, we were in the fourth wave and we felt the audience was still scared. Only now are we starting to feel like we're really coming back."
The band's lead singer, Yoram Hazan, adds that "throughout the entire period of the fourth wave there has been a serious campaign of intimidation in the news, and it does not really invite performances. Now it is being released."
Almost a year and a half since the last song you released. Did the corona silence you?
Elmaleh: "The truth is that if you look at our pace of work since the beginning of our careers, a song a year is a crazy pace for us (laughs). We are not the ones who write four songs a day, That there's something really important to us - we spend. But it's also true that it was an unusual year. I, personally, in crisis - could not write. I had a hard time dealing with music during this period. We did rehearsals, but I had a hard time writing. "We will not release a song about the corona."
Hazan: "The first period was a complete shock. It was not 'Stop life, let's go play and have fun.' Stop life, and we stopped too. Slowly recovering, it takes time. We appear together from a young age, and never. "We took such a long break. Going back to the stages after the corona was a bit like going back to eating bread after Passover, rediscovering something they took from us. Nothing seemed obvious anymore, and what was fun for us - has now become a hundred times more fun."
Are you thinking of releasing a new album, or have you given up on the concept?
Elmaleh: "The truth is that we decided to write songs and release them. If it is collected for the album - we will do it. I like this new format, that songs are released and do not have to wait for the album. I always had a feeling that most of the songs on the album are lost. "Out of ten disappear. When songs are released separately - each song gets maximum attention."
"You thought it would never happen to you / Look what you became / The city was your playground / I was just an idiot." What is the song about?
Hazan: "Ran does not like to talk about what he writes. I think the song is very clear. I prefer not to go into interpretations."
Elmaleh: "It's like a song about relationships, but for me it's a kind of social critique. However, anyone can interpret the song as they wish."
The band's 30th anniversary celebrations were torpedoed because of the corona. Will you celebrate late?
Hazan: "We will start counting from the first album, which was released in 1993."
So we scheduled a celebratory interview in 2023?
"We have determined."
