The former president of the University of Orleans, Youssoufi Touré, was released Tuesday, October 19 by the Orléans Court of Appeal of his sentence at first instance to one year in prison suspended and 15,000 euros fine for embezzlement of public funds.
The judges followed the requisitions of the Advocate General who, invoking the prescription of the facts, had requested the release.

It is a great relief for me but especially for the university, its staff and its students, who have suffered greatly from this situation. Justice works well even if it works slowly,
”reacted Youssoufi Touré. “
It was all very blocking for the university. It has tarnished our image. Now we have to move forward,
”he said.
President of the university from 2009 to 2016, Youssoufi Touré was sentenced in June 2020 for having allowed an ex-collaborator, his ex-partner, to benefit from undue advantages, i.e. 33,020 euros in car travel expenses between his home and university.
The latter, sentenced to six months suspended prison sentence and a fine of 15,000 euros at first instance, for concealment of embezzlement of public funds, was also acquitted Tuesday by the Orléans Court of Appeal.
Youssoufi Touré's successor to the presidency of the University of Orleans, Ary Bruand, had filed a complaint against X in May 2017 following a report by the General Inspectorate of the Administration of National Education and research (Igaer).
