The storks have long since moved south again.
Experts have now evaluated how the animals are doing.
The results for Saxony-Anhalt are not as positive as for other federal states.
Loburg - 2021 was a comparatively good stork year in Saxony-Anhalt.
"We expect a slight increase," said stork expert Michael Kaatz in Loburg.
"We had good rearing conditions in Saxony-Anhalt, there were no major storms." The changeable weather was advantageous.
Kaatz assumes there are around 600 pairs of storks for the country, which it is estimated that they would have raised around 1000 young this year.
The development in western federal states is more positive than in Saxony-Anhalt, said Kaatz.
There is significant inventory growth there.
This is due to the higher proportion of storks that move to Spain instead of covering the long distances across Eastern Europe to Africa.
"Short train routes are an advantage," explained Kaatz.
The death rates are higher on longer train routes and the resting conditions are more difficult.

Another new feature this year was a puzzling disease that caused holes in the legs of young storks in the north of Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.
