2021-10-19T10:22:23.767Z

The president of the Republican People's Union, who obtained 0.92% of the vote in 2017, is seeking the presidency of the Republic for the second time.

Give the French back their freedom of choice

”.

This is how François Asselineau sums up his program for 2022. The former Paris councilor formalizes his candidacy this Tuesday morning, at the headquarters of his party, in the 11th arrondissement.

No European flag in the room, of course, but a French flag and a frame containing the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.

For the candidate, "

the very principle of the European Union is to discredit the level of nation states

".

He therefore intends to leave it.

François Asselineau presents this time a program in “

27 + 1

” commitments, the 28th being a commitment to keep his 27 campaign promises.

A nod to the number of Member States of the European Union, reduced to 27 since the departure of the United Kingdom in 2020.

Exit the euro, the EU and NATO

The “

Frexit

candidate

obtained 0.92% of the vote in 2017 and 1.17% of the vote in the 2019 European elections. However, his proposal to leave France from the European Union, initially perceived as “

eccentric

”at the time of the founding of the UPR in 2007, would be“

now in everyone's mind

”according to him.

The senior official underlines that since the creation of the UPR in 2007, several events have come to give credibility to its proposals, in particular the migrant crisis, "

which has shown the unrealism of the Schengen area

".

In his program for 2022, François Asselineau takes up several elements of his previous campaigns, in particular France's exit from the euro, the European Union and NATO.

"

We want France to leave the European Union on good terms with its neighbors

", however specifies the candidate, for whom certain proposals on the right on the primacy of French law over European law imply "to

remain in the club without apply the rules

”.

Remove regions

The former Paris councilor is also proposing savings measures, by reducing the number of deputies and senators, by abolishing the regions, and by ending the tax credit for competitiveness and employment (CICE) for large companies.

On international issues, the candidate underlines his "

refusal of diplomatic and military subjugation of France

" and his desire for a return "

to Gaullian wisdom

" which, according to him, implies recognizing the sole legitimacy of States, and not diets.

François Asselineau also proposes to amend the Constitution to have the French adopt a citizens' initiative referendum (RIC).

He is opposed to the health pass which he attaches to a "

surveillance society

" suggesting the establishment of "

Chinese social credit

".

However, the candidate underlines his differences with the president of the Patriots Florian Philippot, figurehead of the anti-health pass demonstrations this summer, of which he denounces the "

extremist remarks

".

Indicted for harassment

Asked about his indictment for harassment and sexual assault, the candidate again refutes these accusations and insinuates that it is an attempt to sully him.

"

I have a clean criminal record

," he says, targeting without naming Eric Zemmour, sentenced in 2020 for insult and incitement to hatred.

As for the 500 sponsorships of elected officials, the key to being able to stand for election, Asselineau explains that he has "

good hope

" of succeeding in bringing them together, without however giving the current number of his pledges of support.

This would however be higher "

than at the same time in 2016

".
