Geretsried - Since 2011, the sponsoring association for youth and social work (TVJA) has been offering a “Voluntary Social Year” (FSJ) for young people and young adults who have completed compulsory full-time schooling and are not allowed to be older than 26 years.

Katharina Mayer, Luciana Gomez and Olga Kaliakina reported on their first experiences at a press conference at the Juice Shop Youth Center.

"We are very happy about the FSJ support," said Rudi Mühlhans. The TVJA managing director pointed out that the need for care for children and young people has increased steadily since 2011. That is why Katharina Mayer, Luciana Gomez and Olga Kaliakina are involved in various areas. For example, the trio helps students from Karl-Lederer-Grundschule, Isardamm-Grundschule and Realschule with homework or accompanies them on excursions.

The 16-year-old Katharina Mayer from Dietramszell does administrative tasks in the juice shop in the mornings and supports the “open all-day care” at the secondary school in the afternoons. Your position is paid for by the TVJA and the Realschule. The city bears the costs for the two other FSJ positions. Luciana Gomez, for example, decided to do this. The 15-year-old Waldramerin looks after pupils at the Isardamm primary school. “I want to look at it first and then later study social pedagogy,” she revealed. Headmistress Martina Bäumle is sure that both Gomez and the students will benefit from this. 17-year-old Ukrainian Olga Kaliakina wants to work as a child psychologist. "She also helps us in the afternoons with learning support at the Karl-Lederer-Grundschule," reported teacher Janina Langsteiner.

Mayer, Gomez and Kaliakina each receive 650 euros for their work.

"That corresponds to pocket money as well as a flat rate for meals and accommodation," said TVJA managing director Mühlhans.

TVJA chairman Kerstin Halba would like to see many young people apply for a “Voluntary Social Year” in the future as well.

"We can use every helping hand here," said the SPD city councilor.
