How has the partisan proximity of the French evolved?

DECRYPTION - In eight years (2013-2021), the proportion of French people not saying they are close to any party has increased from 8 to 31%, according to an Ifop study for the Jean-Jaurès Foundation.


Almost five years after the upheaval of the French political landscape caused by the election of Emmanuel Macron, what remains of the “new world”?

Based on work on cumulative Ifop data on declared partisan proximity to the French since 2013, we can draw up an unprecedented analysis of the partisan system.

Which shows a "balkanization" of partisan sympathy with a strong progression of political disaffiliation (therefore abstention).

● A break in 2017

On the evening of the first round of the 2017 presidential election, neither the left nor the Republican right qualified for the second round.

These two forces leave a new field, but in a minority, to Emmanuel Macron (24%)
