According to IG Metall, the difficult situation in German shipbuilding had a major impact, especially in the northeast.
This negative trend could continue, according to a survey by the union.
Hamburg / Schwerin - IG Metall coast demands that the future state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania make the preservation of the maritime industry a top priority.
"Politics and administration must work with full commitment together with companies and IG Metall on prospects for jobs and locations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania," said Daniel Friedrich, district manager of IG Metall coast, on Monday as part of the presentation of a survey in the German shipbuilding industry Branch.
According to the works council survey presented on Tuesday on behalf of IG Metall coast, further job cuts are expected at every third shipyard in the next twelve months.
In the past year, around 1,500 permanent jobs were lost.
That corresponds to a decrease of 8.1 percent.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was particularly hard hit: within a year, almost a quarter of the jobs in the shipyards were lost.
According to the information, the main reason for this is the slump in the construction of cruise ships, which is causing problems for the MV shipyards in Rostock, Stralsund and Wismar as well as the Rostock Neptun shipyard.
